T. S. Skye Suh, Esq.
Ms. Suh established Skye Suh, PLC in October 2002 to provide specialized legal services to automotive related business and to the American Korean citizens of Michigan. Ms. Suh graduated from Detroit Mercy School of Law. Prior to beginning her own practice, Ms. Suh worked in the global legal department at Butzel Long, PC, a large leading Detroit law firm. Ms. Suh also practiced with Borda & Lorenz, PLLC. Ms. Suh also studied Japanese law and business at Hikone, Japan in 1994 and worked as a protocol officer for Kia Motors in Taejon, South Korea for the 1993 World Exposition. Ms. Suh is an Oakland county Mediator and a legal columnist for the Michigan Korean Journal and the Michigan Korean Times (Hankook Ilbo). Ms. Suh is admitted to practice with U.S. Eastern District Court of Michigan and a member of American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).
Prior to practicing law, Ms. Suh managed an international consulting firm and acted as a liaison between South Korean and North American automotive companies. Ms Suh continues to serve on the Board of Director of two international consulting companies. Ms. Suh’s grandfather, Suh, Bum-Suk (former six-term congressional representative in the Seoul District, 1950-1970, Chairman of the National Home Affairs Committee, Minority Floor Leader of the National Defense Committee) and her grandmother, Kwak, Kyong Bong (first woman police chief Seoul District, 1946-1952), inspired her to go into the practice of law. Also, Ms. Suh provides probono legal services to the Korean student community in the Detroit-metro area and provides cultural awareness training to Detroit automotive companies and executives.
Scott S. Schafer, Esq.
Scott S. Schafer is a 1981 graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and graduated in 1999, from the University of Toledo College of Law. During Law School, he performed legal internships in the United States District Court, Northern District of Ohio, the Wayne County Prosecutors Office, and The University of Toledo Free Legal Clinic. Mr. Schafer, an associate at the firm, was admitted to the State Bar in 1999, and is a member of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan and the United States Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Mr. Schafer was commissioned as an officer in the United States Army, serving nine years of active duty as a Combat Assault Helicopter Pilot and Test Pilot. He participated in operations during Grenada, Panama, and the Persian Gulf, and has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. Mr. Schafer’s primary areas of practice include general civil and commercial litigation, commercial collections, real property litigation and criminal defense. Mr. Schafer has a strong background in insurance defense, having successfully represented client companies in over one hundred fifty toxic tort matters.
Elissa F. McDaniels, Esq.
Elissa F. McDaniels is a graduate of the University of Michigan (B.A. in American Culture) and Thomas M. Cooley Law School (J.D.), where she participated in Thomas M. Cooley’s Moot Court program and Mock Trial Program. While attending the University of Michigan, Ms. McDaniels worked at Butzel Long P.C., in Ann Arbor, Michigan. During law school, Ms. McDaniels served as a volunteer Research Assistant for the Michigan Private Child and Family Federation, where she was responsible for drafting proposed legislative amendments regarding Child Protection and Adoption Law, subsequently passed into law, (Michigan Compiled Laws 722.627j). Ms. McDaniels is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan, and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. McDaniels is also a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Ms. McDaniels joined SKYE SUH, PLC in August of 2004. Prior to joining SKYE SUH, PLC, Ms. McDaniels gained experience in commercial transactions, bankruptcy, lien law, and general real estate issues as a law clerk at a construction litigation firm in Lansing, Michigan. Ms. McDaniels practice areas include: Immigration Law, Corporate, and Commercial Transactions, Employment Law, and Landlord-Tenant Law.
Megan M. Begley, Esq.
Megan M. Begley is a graduate of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, where she received her J.D degree in 2007. During law school Ms. Begley obtained Immigration Law experience by participating in the UDM Immigration Law Clinic, working as an advocate for refugees fleeing persecution in their native countries. Also, Ms. Begley was a founding member of the school’s Immigration Law Student Association. Ms. Begley completed her undergraduate studies at Western Michigan University, where she obtained her B.A. in Political Science and Spanish. Ms. Begley also spent a semester in Granada, Spain, where she completed intensive language and cultural courses; she is fluent in the Spanish language. Ms. Begley is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and the United States District Court, Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. Begley is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Ms. Begley joined SKYE SUH, PLC in 2008. Ms. Begley’s practice areas include: Immigration Law, Corporate Law, Employment Law, and Landlord-Tenant Law.
